WEEK OF DECEMBER 8 - 12, 2025

Important Dates and Updates

Welcome Principal Jackson

It is an honor to serve as the principal of West Orange High School, the very place where my own journey began. As a proud graduate of West Orange, and having served as a teacher, dean, and assistant principal from 1997 to 2014, I carry a deep appreciation for our traditions and a unique perspective shaped by decades of connection to this school and community.

I recognize the tremendous responsibility of leading my alma mater, and I embrace it with pride and purpose. Together, we will honor the qualities that make West Orange unique and commit to ensuring our school continues to be a source of pride for generations ahead. I look forward to many years of leading with vision and purpose, developing future leaders, and shaping a legacy of excellence that will define the future of West Orange.

Connectivity Day

The second Connectivity Day will be on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
OCPS requires that students must submit a parent consent form in order to participate. Students that do not submit parent permission forms will be placed in holding rooms for the duration of the Connectivity Hour.

Forms were distributed through 4th period classes on Wednesday or Thursday. The link to the form, to print, is below. Forms must be submitted to your student's 4th period teacher by Friday, December 12, 2025. Students who do not have a 4th period can submit their forms to Room 536 to Mrs. Light or Mrs. Mottin.

Connectivity Day is a time for all students to find connection and engagement at our school. This day will include interest activity sessions, service projects, music, holiday decorations, bounce house courses, food trucks, and more.

Stay tuned for more information on Parent Square and Canvas for students.

PERFORMING ARTS

Theatre

Congratulations to our Theatre Program

West Orange Theatre one act play "Captain Corelli's Mandolin"was awarded Best In Show after earning a perfect score. This means we are headed to State, our 8th consecutive win.

Did you know the students had to learn three dialects (Greek, Italian and German) and to speak lines in two languages (Greek and Italian) for the show?

In addition to this prestigious title:
  • Zach Altpeter (Sophomore) was named to the All-Star Cast.
  • Vidya Matthews (Junior, Stage Manager) and
  • Nolan Chillinsky (Senior) received a top Outstanding Student Designer award for his set design.

Along with that, students Emma Jacobson, Shayla Cooke, Zach Altpeter and JT Klinker all had the opportunity to perform in the Best in Show ceremony. Throughout our many events that were performed this weekend, our troupe had 2 performances that received a perfect score:
  • Emma Jacobson for her Solo Musical "I'm Breaking Down"
  • Zach Altpeter, JT Klinker, Braeden Estep, Josh Bradford, Jonah Bradford, Jordan Harris and Nathan Crabbendam for their Small Group "Some Kind of Time"

Please join us in congratulating the students for their hard work, creativity, and perseverance. Theatre is more than performance—it cultivates discipline, collaboration, time management, and critical thinking. These are skills that help students thrive not only on stage but also in your classrooms and beyond.
