Advanced Placement (AP)
-
Advanced Placement, or AP, classes are college level classes and exams taught on campus by WOHS teachers. Additional AP Courses are offered tuition free to our students through FLVS.
-
Research consistently shows that AP students are better prepared for college than students who don’t take AP, regardless of their exam score. They’re more likely to enroll and stay in college, do well in their classes, and graduate in four years.
Taking AP can help students:
- Get a Head Start on College Credits
- Develop College Readiness Skills
- Discover Personal and Academic Passions
- Boost High School GPA
AP Courses and Exams in high school can also give students an advantage in college by letting them:
- Earn college credit and placement (AP Credit Policy Search Tool)
- Save Money and Time
- Stand Out to Colleges
- Expand options like a second degree, study abroad, or internships when in college.
-
No. All AP Classes and Exams are available at no cost to our students.
-
AP courses are the most challenging and rigorous courses available to our students. Therefore, students who take AP classes should:
- Expect an increase in the amount of work/assignments/exams,
- Be ready and wiling to be challenged at the highest levels,
- Demonstrate the ability to be “self starters,”
- Be comfortable communicating on their own with their teachers.
Students should talk to their Counselor, Teachers, and Ms. Maroth, our College and Career Specialist, to determine if AP classes are a good fit for their high school and post secondary goals.
