Meeting times and dates:First Monday of each month in Room 560

How to sign up: Attend a meeting or email our Club Sponsor, Senora Vigliotti at [email protected].

Purpose: To promote Hispanic culture while assisting students in their study of the Spanish language.

Governing Rules, Procedures, and Qualification for Membership:

A Sophomore, Junior or Senior entering in a 5th semester of a Spanish class, or a native speaker of the Spanish language that have been enrolled in our school system for less than three (3) consecutive years. Please, refer to the National SHS Office’s Policy Updates of July  2016.

Have a ‘B’ average in Spanish class - 3.0 on 4.0 scale.

Have an overall ‘B’ average - 3.0 on 4.0 scale.

All members attend five (5) regularly scheduled meetings per semester

All members complete five (5) hours of unpaid community service.

All members complete seven (7) hours of Spanish tutoring.

All members submit a copy of their report card at the end of each semester.

***Failure to meet these standards will result in probation and/or expulsion from the club.

Dues and Fees:

Annual dues of fifteen dollars ($15).

T-Shirt, while not mandatory, will be required to march in the Homecoming parade and for the club’s photo and activities. T-shirt fee is twelve dollars ($12).

Vision and Mission:

The mission of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is to recognize high school achievement in Spanish and Portuguese courses and to promote interest in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian studies.

Motto: "¡Todos a una!" ("All Together for One Goal")

The Spanish Honor Society at West Orange is a local chapter of the national NSHH, Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, which is run by the AATSP, the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. Each year the SHH gives over $150,000 in awards. The most prestigious are college scholarships to fifty-two high school senior SHH members, travel awards to twenty-four high school junior SHH members, and several other awards.
