PTSO SPIRIT SHIRT CONTEST

Thanks to all who entered a t-shirt design for the chance to have it produced and sold in the official Warrior Store.

A link to vote for the winning design will be posted on Canvas announcements on Tuesday, November 18. The voting will end on Thursday November 20. The winner will be announced on Friday.

The winning student will receive a free shirt with their design, a $15 Chick-fil-A gift card, plus recognition on the Chimp Threads website where it will be for sale. (Proceeds go to West Orange High School Angel Fund)
 

PERFORMING ARTS

OCPS All County Orchestra

Congratulations to our Orchestra and Band Students

WOHS has 8 total students selected to perform with the OCPS All-County Orchestra!

They started rehearsals last Thursday and are in rehearsal all day today, Friday 11/14, at Innovation High School. Their concerts are tomorrow, Saturday 11/15, at 10:00am and 1:30pm at Innovation High School. Congratulations to the following students!

Support Person of the Year Finalist

Our very own, Laura Heintzelman was named as an OCPS Stellar Award Finalist for Support Person of the Year! We know she is more than deserving of this honor. We are so thankful for all she does to support the ESE program and West Orange. Congrats Ms. Laura!

Underclassmen photos were taken on Thursday, October 16. Photos will be available for purchase and sent directly to parents’ email in mid-November.

Underclassman make-ups picture day is to be determined at this time.

These photos will be used in the yearbook and for identification (skyward). Students must be photographed.

FBLA Conference Success and Donation

Huge shutout the West Orange High FBLA students who took part in the Franchise Brokers Association Conference held at the Grand Cypress Hotel in Orlando, Florida.

West Orange High FBLA students actively engaged in a dynamic session with brokers, franchisers and franchisees from across the country and gained hands-on experience during the expo.

We’re incredibly grateful to the Franchise Brookers Association for their generous $20,000 donation to support our West Orange High Future Business Leaders of America Chapter.

Free Tutoring Services - Brainfuse


Brainfuse offers free online tutoring through the Orange County Library System to ALL students in Orange County Public Schools.

FREE live tutors are available every day from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Using Brainfuse, students can connect with a qualified tutor for expert help in a variety of subjects.

New Scholarships Available

Ron Brown Scholarship
The Ron Brown Scholarship honors the legacy of Ronald H. Brown through a selective scholarship program that advances higher education for community-minded and intellectually gifted African Americans. RBSP competitively awards 20 four-year $40,000 scholarships ($10,000 each year) to the most talented and economically-challenged high school seniors who demonstrate a keen interest in public service, community engagement, business entrepreneurship, and global citizenship.

Science Ambassador Scholarship
An annual scholarship funded by Cards Against Humanity for undergraduate women and non-binary students in science, technology, engineering, or math.

Burger King Foundation Scholarship
The scholarship is open to all seniors and eligible Burger King employees. Applicant submissions will be capped at 50,000. Access to the application will no longer be available once this number is reached or the deadline has passed, so do not wait to apply. Following the application submission deadline date, Scholarship America, the organization administering the scholarship, will review applications for eligibility. Scholarship America will make the following award selections: Up to 3 James W. McLamore WHOPPER® scholarships of $60,000 granted to the most highly qualified students demonstrating leadership, substantial work experience and financial need, One (1) Nancy McLamore Scholarship of $20,000, Up to six (6) King Awards at $10,000 granted to the most qualified employee in each region (1 award per region), Up to twelve (12) regional awards of $5,000 granted to the most qualified employees in each of the six (6) regions (2 awards per region), There are a number of special-named, several employee-based track, and general high school senior track awards for various franchisees which are determined annually based on funds raised.
Coolidge Scholarship
The Coolidge Scholarship is an annually awarded, full-ride, presidential scholarship that covers a student’s tuition, room, board, and expenses for four years of undergraduate study. This scholarship may be used by recipients at any accredited college or university in the United States. Students apply during their Junior year of high school.

Lake Apopka Natural Gas District - Skilled Trades Scholarship
To provide financial assistance to graduating high school seniors who plan to enroll in a trade or technical program at an accredited two-year college or trade school in the State of Florida. We aim to invest in individuals who are committed to developing hands-on skills that make a direct impact in the communities of West Orange and South Lake Counties.

Seniors! There are TWO very important financial aid applications you need to complete for Senior Clearance!

1. FFAA (Florida Financial Aid Application) [REQUIRED for Bright Futures]
2. FAFSA: Free Application for FEDERAL Student Aid : www.studentaid.gov

*ALL Seniors are strongly encouraged to complete a FAFSA regardless of financial need as most colleges require a FAFSA on file in order to receive any kind of financial aid or scholarships from the college.
